Wed, 4 March 2009 (Dust on the Microphone)Welcome, and we apologize for the long absence. Crunch time for my diploma thesis and personal... things at home (those who subscribe to my Twitter feed may know what we are talking about) caused this episode to be delayed a few weeks after the last episode that went out, and then almost a month to edit and post it. Mon, 12 January 2009 Our long winter hibernation/hiatus has come to an end, and here is our first episode of the new year, and it's about the new year, and the celebrations that surround it. Note that the first version of this episode had some problems, so if you got that version, before sending in a snarky voicemail (I'm looking at you, Nobilis), do the whole delete-shift-(or-command)-click-the-triangle-in-iTunes-and-download-again trick (or just listen to it here in the flash player). Sorry! (note to self: listening to the final mix in Audacity does not equal listening to the final mp3. Lesson learned)This week we talk about the traditions surrounding the new year's celebration, including the eternal Dinner For One. Shout outs go to Rowan, our new listener (well, new to feedback), and winner of our giveaway, which I will be mailing out... soon. Mon, 29 September 2008 In this episode of Der Geek, Leanna and I discuss the German health care system. And also, some random German words in our random German words of the week section. Which we just started this week.Oh, and also a voicemail from Jack Jaffee. Because it is an unspoken rule that I must link to him at least once each show notes. Promo played was for Double Share by Nathan Lowell. Which contains minor spoilers for Full Share. So... beware. If you're in the middle of Full Share... who am I kidding, you wouldn't be listening to this, you'd be finishing Full Share. Music is courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs are two of my favorite artists, Screaming Infidelities by Dashboard Confessional and Title and Registration by Death Cab for Cutie, who I will be going to see in November (yay!). Fri, 12 September 2008 We return from our travels with a new Der Geek!I don't talk too much about Dragon*Con, as I'll have plenty of chances to do so. Instead, I let my wife take the focus as she tell a little about her trip with her brother to Belgium. The audio quality for this episode is not the best, I apologize. Hopefully that won't deter you too much. I couldn't find my iRiver to record this one with, so we ended up using a less-than-optimum set up. Promos played were for Tale Chasing with the lovely and talented Kimi Alexandre, and the Parsec Award Winning The Wierd Show with Mark the Encaffinated ONE. Music provided courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs were Bye Bye Blue Sky by Latch Key Kid, and This Time by Laura Marie. Sat, 9 August 2008 So this show is all over the place. But then when is our show not. We kick it off with a wonderful audio submission by Jack Jaffee and his gang of the usual podcasting suspects... Wander Wolf, Kentucky John, Emily from Ohio, Nobilis and his wife, Dee, Sam Chupp, Mark the Encaffinated ONE, and Philippa "Sieve the Shining" Ballantine. After commiserating, we jump into a main topic that lasts about five seconds, then answer a lot of really good voicemails. Special Guest appearances by Charlie and Daisy, two of our cats. Promos played were for 12v Theater (hey, it's a new promo, what do you expect?) and Mur Lafferty's Playing for keeps, because despite the fact that I'm not her target audience, Mur is a great podcaster. No music this show because it's late and I am tired. Let me know if you miss it. Or if I should just leave it out in the future. The secret password is blogosphere. Comments[0] |

In a very special episode of Der Geek, Tosus learns of the importance of bringing earplugs to a rock show, Star Wars gets a hard rock soundtrack, and popular music in Germany gets discussed... and dissed. This is a series I would like to do every once and a while, where I take a band I enjoy, and review their music and concert. If you guys like this, let me know. If not, well, there's a section of Leanna and myself in the middle, responding to one of Jack Jaffee's voicemails*. Music is Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria on their album Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness (You gotta love C&C for their album names. I just typed that by memory...), and No World For Tomorrow off the album of the same name (Though technically, the album is named Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 2: No World For Tomorrow... I know, I know), as well as Lemon Tree by Fools Garden off their album Dish of the Day. Promo for 12 Volt Theater. Check it out! (And wish Jack a happy birthday) Real episode next week... with SEX! Fri, 18 April 2008 We have a great episode for you this week! Leanna joins me in the studio for the whole show, so you're not stuck listening to my voice all day (for that, check out Wingin' It 3D instead). I start off by recapping my week with some horror stories of corporate America, as well as Leanna's new toy (Okay Jack, get your head out of the gutter). In our New Media Review, we discuss the latest season of Torchwood. Careful, there may be spoilers! In the This German Life segment, Leanna recounts her visit to one of Europe's most popular Amusement Parks, Europa Park In our Classic Media Review, we take a look at the newest season of Doctor Who. Again, mild spoilers contained within. And finally, we wrap up with voicemails from Jack Jaffee, aka Coffee Jack, and... well, nobody, because nobody else called the voicemail line (sad pandas). If you'd like to get in touch with us, send us an email at a href="mailto:dergeek.com">DerGeek@gmail.com, give us a call at the new and improved (except not really) voicemail line at 206-888-2644 (US number!), or send us an MP3 or other audio file as an email. Thu, 10 April 2008 Here is the long-awaited second epsiode of our show. Yes, we made it further than 90% of podcasts out there! In this episode, we discuss the one year anniversary of Joe Murphy's passing, as well as Scott Sigler's Infected, as well as his other podcast novels. In the This German Life segment, we talk a little about German food. This episode is a bit atypical, which considering we have two shows so far means precisely nothing. Instead of a classic media review, I look back on the 26 year history of the magazine formerly known as Computer Gaming World, which recently closed it doors. Then finally I answer some voicemails, which you can call in to the voicemail line at 206-888-2644 (US number), or email to dergeek@gmail.com. Music courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. Featured songs are Montana Snow by Cluny Edwards, Outside by Buddahead, and Prevent the World by Criteria. Promos played were from Scott Sigler's Infected, and from The Farpoint Recap. Comments[1] |
